Leshan Buddha

 

 

 

 

The Leshan Giant Buddha is a 71m-tall stone statue, constructed from 713-803 during the Tang dynasty. Carved from Cretaceous red bed sandstones, it stands at the confluence of the Min and Dadu Rivers in southern Sichuan, near Leshan. Facing Mount Emei, with rivers beneath its feet, it's the world's largest and tallest stone Buddha and the tallest pre-modern statue.

Discover two of the most popular UNESCO sites near Chengdu as you learn about 2 giants - The Giant Panda and Giant Buddha on this full-day tour.

Start the tour with pick up from your hotel located within the 2nd ring of downtown Chengdu. Enjoy a comfortable transfer to the Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding which is just a 1-hour drive away at the edge of the city. Spend approximately 2 to 2.5 hours exploring the breeding center. See over 170 pandas from tiny pink newborns to giants which reach up to 1.5 meters tall. Admire the adorable panda babies running around their play enclosures, laying in the pool, or climbing the trees.

Next, head over to the historic Leshan Buddha located is 2.5 hours away along the expressway. Stop for a quick lunch, then discover the world's largest sitting Buddha statue which is about 71 meters high crafted out of a cliff face. If the situation allows, the guide will take you for a closer look at the Buddha's head and feet. Find out more about Buddism and local beliefs in the Lingyun Temple next to the Giant Buddha.

After 2 hours at Leshan, head back to Chengdu. Depending on traffic, end the tour in the city center of Tianfu Square.

Group Tour Notes

 

 

1 Free Pick-up is offered for visitors staying in the hotels/hostels inside the 2nd Ring Road of Chengdu city. Extra cost will be charged for pick-up service for those who stay outside the 2nd Ring Road, so please SPECIFY the hotel name and address when you enroll this tour. The tour will end near Tianfu Square of downtown where visitors are dismissed.  

 

2 The night before the tour departure about 8:30pm, a guide will call you directly if you have left us a China mobile number, or he/she will call to the hotel room to inform the pick-up time next morning. A message will be left at the hotel front desk if you are not in the room when he/she calls.
