| The West Lake | Lingyin Temple | | As a symbol of Hangzhou city and covering 6.5 square kilometers, it has been famous for thousands of years for its natural beauty. It was originally a shallow sea inlet before it became a lake due to the laying down of silt. Take a boat touring the lake, you will get fascinated views with green hills background and the soft willow trees, elegant bridges around. Seeing such beautiful scenery, visitors would feel as if they have entered a fairyland on earth. | Twin stone pagodas dating from AD326 and two 1000-year-old sutra pillars stand guard at the entrance of the temple.The Feilai Peak covered with inscriptions and reliefs dating from the 10th to 14th centuries opposite the temple. In the workshop, one can see old specialist men cutting and making traditional drugs. In the business hall, one can buy Chinese traditional medicinal herbs from various parts of the country. | The three stone pagodas are on the bank of the West Lake built 800 years ago. Spherical in shape, they are hollowed inside, with 5 holes on the surface of the bulb. When the full moon is shining high above in the sky, people would light candles in the pagodas and seal the holes with thin paper. Shining through the holes, the reflection of the candlelight in the water as if there were many little moons, thus named that.
