| Tiananmen Square | The Forbidden City (Imperial Palace) | | The Tiananmen Square, in the center of Beijing, is said to be the biggest square in the world. It is 880 meters from north to south, and 500 meters from east to west, with total area of 440,000 square meters and can hold one million people and is regarded as a symbol of China. | The Temple was completed in 1420 and was originally a platform for the emperor to perform sacrifices and solemn rites. The Temple buildings and the parklands reflect ancient Chinese religious beliefs that imagine heaven as round and earth as square. It is composed of four main areas: the Round Altar, Echo Wall, the Vault of Heaven and the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, a unique wooden and blue-tiled structure built without a nail. The entire complex is a treasure trove of ancient Chinese architectural designs and arts and was listed as UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage in 1998 |
It is in northwest suburban Beijing. The construction of the Summer Palace first started in 1750. It is the most splendid imperial garden in China with elegant overall arrangement, magnificent buildings and attractive scenery.The palace occupies an area of 290 hectares, three fourths of which are covered with Kunming Lake. Among the ancient architectures in the garden, the Covered Walkway, Tower of Buddhist Incense,
the Marble Boat, the 17-Arch Bridge and Grand Theatre are the most famous ones and well known to visits both home and abroad. It was listed as UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage in 1998. |
| The Great Wall | The Badaling Great Wall | The Great Wall is considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. And also it is the only man-made construction which can be seen from space. The Great Wall of China, enlisted in the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987, is a symbol of Chinese traditional culture and the pride of the Chinese nation.
The Great Wall rises and falls, twists and turns along the ridges of the Yanshan and Yinshan Mountain chains, which straddle North China from east to west. Known in China as the “Ten Thousand Li Wall? it actually stretches for 12 thousand li (6,350 kilometers) from Jiayuguan Pass in Gansu Province at the west end to Shanhaiguan Pass on the shores of Bohai Bay at the east end. The Great Wall is preserved as a historical monument today. It is included in most tourist itineraries and regarded as number one in China Top Attraction list. | There are six sections of the Great wall opened to the visitors in Beijing. Among them, the Badaling is the most popular one. 130 million tourists from China and abroad have visited Badaling, 370 foreign leaders and very important persons have come to climb Badaling successively. When you stand on the wall, the bricks, the signal towers, the watchtowers, even the wind, all bring you back to history. Badaling section is the most famous and best-preserved wall.
It lies 45 miles away at the northwest of Beijing. The highest point here is more than 2,400 feet above sea level. In Chinese, 'Bada' means 'giving access to every direction'. The name itself suggests its strategic importance. The Chinese flock to the
wall as it is said if you haven't been to the great wall, you are not a good Chinese. It was heavily restored in the 1950s and 1980s and it became a tourist attraction Since 1953. |
| The Mutianyu Great Wall | The Spirit Way (Shen Dao) | | The Mutianyu is considered as the most beautiful sections among six sections of the Great wall opened to the visitors in Beijing. The Mutianyu Great Wall has the largest construction scale and best quality among all sections of Great Wall. Many foreign top leaders have visited Mutianyu Great Wall. minister of Britain, and Bill Clinton, former president of the United States. The unique feature in this section is which has double side battlements on the both side of the wall (other five sections only has battlement on the outer side and parapet in the inner side ). The mountain in this area full of different kind of fruit trees such as Chestnut, Walnut, apple and so on has a magnificent view all year round. | The Spirit Way (Shen Dao), the way guarded on both sides with stone statues by which the ancient emperors wanted to hold a memorial ceremony for the ancestors.It is 7 kilometers long, the longest in China's royal tombs, impressive marble archway as well as the entrance to the Ming Tombs. It was thought to have leaded the emperors' souls to enter heaven. Along the path
are bizarre, mythical stone monsters standing guard.There are 12 pairs of animals, including elephants, lions, mythological beasts, and six pairs of court and military officials. But as the later tombs were built either to the right or to the left, it became the main road to all of them. |
